This table is been through a lot!
Eighteen years and counting, four kids, water spills, milk spills, scratches, you name it! This table has been through a lot over the last eighteen years, had already a diy before, its original color was dark wood, unfortunately the top is not real wood, its compressed wood, it started peeling and we could see water bubbles, we paid so much money for this table to realize it was pressed wood, ugh we were robbed and disappointed!! So anyways, my husband sanded the bubbles and he painted it sage/soft green color, same we did with our chairs.
We loved the transformation to this sage color but after 5 years it was time for another change. We did not want to buy a new table, thinking we spend so much money, so a new color with new chairs will be perfect. When I’m looking for inspiration Pinterest always comes to the rescue! (check my Pinterest board named dining) I found so many black dining tables with woven accent chairs in natural color that I thought this would be a perfect new look to my dining area.
I went to Sherwin Williams and picked the color Tricorn Black, it is such a true black color you can’t go wrong with this black.
I did not sand the table, I saw it pointless since it is a pressed wood, so we took the table outside and started paint it.
I did two coats of paint, it dried fast (weather was sunny and then got windy with a chance of rain), no time to leave it outside anymore, we rushed the table inside with a couple of spots still wet. thankfully nothing got undone. I was so happy with the way it turned out! Now to look for the perfect (affordable) dining chairs.
I looked at many places online, like Pottery barn (sooo beautiful but soo expensive), Amazon, Wayfair (the ones I wanted were sold out), Target had some new ones from the Studio Mcgee collection, So I bought one online to see how it would look and did not like it! I thought the cane back was too cheap and not would not last, so I returned it, I will link it for you just in case.
Then I ordered these ones from Target and win win win, love at first sight. Not only beautiful but well made and comfortable. They look perfect with my black dining table. Exactly the look I wanted!
What do you think? Would you paint your dining table black? I love how it looks and don’t regret it at all!
