The Name Lana and Lino

The Name Lana and Lino

The name Lana and Lino comes from the book of Proverbs found in the Bible. Two words in Spanish that literally means Wool and Linen.

I wanted a name to represent my faith and what I do and use for my handmade business, and searching in the Bible I found exactly what I was looking for. Here is what it says:

Proverbs 31:10-31 The Wife Of Noble Character

10 A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She selects WOOL AND FLAX  (Flax: The textile made from flax known as linen)
and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31 Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

My New Adventure

My New Adventure

Yesterday, Friday March 31st, I opened my online store!!! So exited and nervous at the same time, you know the feeling when you are about to begin a new adventure!!.  Hi, my name is Ursula Rodriguez and I love designing and creating things with my hands specially when it comes to knitting, crocheting, sewing and weaving. Ever since I can remember I was always surrounded by bright colors, knitting needles and crochet hooks, wool and beautiful hand woven textiles. Being born in Peru, a culture that is known for its beautiful organic alpaca fibers, merino wool and hand woven textiles, were a big influence in my life.  The passion and the love for creating handmade items are deeply rooted in my heart. Now I am passing this love for handmade to my children which are a big part of this adventure.

So, over the last couple of months we have been (me and my daughters) weaving and creating beautiful handmade wall hangings, small and big. Improving our style and colors and techniques, adding texture and love!  After thinking about it over and over I decided to open my online shop, opening my shop was not that easy, I was afraid and insecure, balancing home and being a homeschool mama of 4 kids made it a little harder too. I thought about it for a long time.

Until one day I told myself lets try it, why not, and I did it.  It took a lot of courage, believe me, I was terrified, the more I thought about it the less I wanted to do it.  First step is always the hardest, right?, but with a lot of encouragement from my family I did it!! Now this is just the first step, I still have a lot to learn, (I still have to climb a mountain) how to grow my business is the next step, using social media for marketing and meeting new people who can help me grow my business is next and meeting people who are just like me, starting a new adventure. These are my goals, it is a learning process and I’m sure I will be hunted by those insecurity thoughts again. Hopefully I will be more confident to stay focus on my vision.

How about you, have you started your own handmade business? or any type of  business/dream? Are you in the process of ? or are you a long time entrepreneur?

Leave me a comment I would love to hear all about it!!

Thank you!

Ursula Rodriguez
